Choose a scanning resolution.
When
scanning an image to import into Photoshop, it is important to keep in
mind both the appropriate resolution for the output device and the
final dimensions of the image. Before scanning, you should decide
whether you plan to use the image at its existing size or to scale it
up or down. Scanning software generally includes a scaling option.
Always scan the image at the largest size you need to ensure the
highest quality output. Scaling images up after scanning can cause
quality loss; scaling images down produces little to no quality loss.
The resolution you use depends upon the destination of the image:
Web If you are scanning an image that you will display on the Web, scan at 72 pixels per inch (ppi).
Desktop printer If you are scanning an image that you will print on a desktop printer, scan at 150 to 300 ppi.
